BRUCE EDWARD BANISH

Bruce Edward Banish, 66, a Detroit-area native and longtime resident of Presque Isle, passed away at the MediLodge of Greenview in Alpena on Sept. 9, 2019.

Bruce was born April 2, 1953 the only child of Donald and Lucille (Weber) Banish. After being raised in the communities of Oak Park and Hamtramck in metro Detroit, he spent many of his later years as a full-time resident of East Grand Lake, in the family cottage first acquired by his beloved grandparents Ed and Catherine Banish.

An accomplished drummer like his father, Bruce had a passion for music and was a member of various small bands and folk groups during his high school and college years. He also possessed a lifelong Christian faith, a strong work ethic and an aptitude for all things mechanical, which he enjoyed sharing with others. Most significant of all was Bruce’s honest and engaging nature, which was witnessed by family, friends, service providers and strangers alike. In this respect, he was a true icon of the Alpena and Presque Isle communities.

In addition to his parents and grandparents, Bruce was preceded in death by two dear relatives whom he considered true inspirations: His aunt, Joann Chiodo and his great-aunt, Sophia Sroka. Survivors include his only first cousin, Mark Bielak of Atlanta, Georgia, and members of the extended Banish family. He will also be dearly missed by two longtime close friends in lower Michigan, Judy Cameron and Debra Ronk.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Grand Lake Community Chapel on Thursday, Oct. 17 at 11 a.m. A welcoming reception will precede the Service beginning at 10:30 a.m. Interment at the Presque Isle Township Cemetery. Online condolences may be registered at mcwilliamsfh.com
