ALPHONSE SZATKOWSKI

Alphonse Szatkowski, 83, passed away Oct. 28, 2019. Al was born in a logging camp in Krakow Township, Michigan, on Sept. 14, 1936 to Leo and Clara (Chrzan) Szatkowski. He spent his youth working alongside his father lumbering the forests of Presque Isle County and operating the family’s sawmill on Grand Lake Hwy. These skills instilled a hard work ethic that served him well throughout his life. There was nothing he could not build or fix! Following his service in the U.S. Army, Al settled in Detroit, Michigan where he met and married Barbara Kaminski on Septe. 19, 1964. The couple recently celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary. Al worked for Borg-Warner for 30 years, retiring in 1993. He is survived by his wife, Barbara, their three daughters, Darlene (John) Salk of Berville, Michigan, Donna (Gary) Zych of New York, New York, and Tammy (Ryan) Reeves of Westlake, Texas; five grandsons, Jake (Hillary) Salk, Joseph Salk, Lennon Zych, Ian and Briston Reeves; one great-grandson Jace Salk; four sisters Sally Delikta, Virginia (John) Hlavacs, Anna (Mike) Smigelski, Gerty (Gene) Kuznicki, and two brothers Henry and James (Barbara) Szatkowski. He was preceded in death by one brother, Julian Szatkowski.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, Nov. 3, 2019 from 2-8 p.m. with an evening Rosary at Wasik Funeral Home, 11470 Thirteen Mile Road, Warren, Michigan, 48093. A funeral mass will be held at St. Mary, Our Lady Queen of Families-St. Clement Site, 25295 Van Dyke, Centerline, Michigan, 48015 on Monday, Nov. 4, 2019 at 10 a.m., with an instate period beginning at 9:30 a.m. Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family at www.wasikfuneralhome.com
