MARIE ANN WALMSLEY

Marie Ann Wekwert was born on June 29, 1938, in Alpena to the late Theophil A. and Anna (Smolinski) Wekwert. On Aug. 24, 1968, she married Darvin Walmsley. Marie graduated from Alpena Community College, Central Michigan University, and with her Master’s degree from the University of Michigan. She worked as a teacher at Alpena Public Schools for 43 years, including Wilson, Bingham, Besser, Thunder Bay Junior High, McPhee, and retired from Ella White in 2001.

Marie was a member of All Saints Parish, a past member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Friends of the Library, and Michigan Education Association. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing dominos, western dancing, kayaking, walking, travel, reading, and collecting dolls.

Surviving are her husband, Darv; five siblings, Jerome Wekwert, Betty (Vern) Stoppa, Geri Chase, Larry (Barb) Wekwert, Janice (Jerry) Schultz; 18 loved nieces and nephews, Linda, Paula, Sharon, Vicki, Jason, DeLynn, Eileen, Perry, Kenneth, Mark, Tom, Todd, Rickey, Cheryl, Lee, Craig, Kelly, Stacy, (each of them being her favorite); several great-nieces and -nephews.

Mrs. Walmsley was preceded in death by two nephews, Gary and Kevin.

Visitation will take place at Bannan Funeral Home on Thursday from noon until the funeral service at 2 p.m. with Rev. Joseph Muszkiewicz officiating.

Interment: Holy Cross Cemetery
