KENNETH D. LIGHTHALL

Ken was born on June 7, 1938 in Dearborn to the late Marvin and Velma (Hoag) Lighthall. He attended Onsted High School, where he was an outstanding athlete. On Oct. 17, 1958, he married his wife of 61 years, Joan Lemm. They started their life together in Adrian, where he worked at American Chain and Cable and Dura. Later, he worked for General Portland, and Lafarge, moving from Michigan to Florida and eventually Ohio. Later, he and Joan made their home in Alpena, Michigan and wintered in Bradenton, Florida.

Ken loved to tell stories and authored two books. He enjoyed woodworking, collecting sports memorabilia, riding his bike and rooting for his beloved Michigan Wolverines. He was a longtime member of the Moose Lodge.

During the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, Georgia, Ken was selected from thousands of nominees to represent his community in carrying the Olympic Torch during the global Torch Relay. Ken was selected because of his selfless giving of time to regularly support others in need.

Surviving are his wife Joan; four children, Kim (Dennis) Coley, St. Petersburg, Florida, Tim (Lisa) Lighthall, Lehigh Acres, Florida, Jim (Susan) Lighthall, Lutz, Florida, Kellie (Matt) Poli, Alpena; 10 grandchildren, Sarah Coley, Laura Coley, Charissa (Matt) Greubel, Justin (Meghan) Lighthall, Jesse Lighthall, Emily Lighthall, Jake Lighthall, Nicholas Poli, Allison Poli, Benjamin Poli; four great-grandchildren, Seth and Makayla Mullins, Ari Greubel, Maci and Hunter Lighthall; brother, Randy Lighthall; and sister-in-law, Beth Lighthall.

Mr. Lighthall was preceded in death by his sister, Doris Avis and her husband Merlin; brother, Terry Lighthall; and sister-in-law, Melodie Lighthall.

Visitation will take place Sunday, Sept. 22, 2019, at Bannan Funeral Home from 2 p.m. until the funeral service at 4 p.m. with Rev. Eugene Bacon officiating.

Interment: Evergreen Cemetery
