DOROTHY ELIZABETH SIMMONS

Dorothy Elizabeth Stoddard was born on April 22, 1926 to the late William and Della (Clark) Stoddard in South Bend, Indiana. Shortly after her birth, her mother and her returned to the Posen area. She had fond memories of spending time during the summer with her brother at the D & M Railroad Depot in Posen, where her father was a station agent. She sometimes was given the task of walking the line checking car numbers off a list. While waiting for her sweetheart, Ira Simmons, to return from WWII, she was part of a unique hospital nurses aide training program at Alpena General Hospital to help with the war effort. On July 26, 1946, she married her sweetheart, Ira Simmons. In later years she worked alongside him with Simmons Traffic Markings. He preceded her in death on Feb. 20, 2008.

Surviving are two children, David (Cindy) Simmons, Marcia Simmons; grandson, Shawn and his family; nephews, Randy, Ira; niece, Penelope; and her kitty, Sadie Mae.

Mrs. Simmons was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Stoddard.

Cremation arrangements have been handled by the Bannan Funeral Home.
