ROBERT LEE MENO

Robert Lee Meno, 90, of Alpena, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday Aug. 27, 2019. Bob was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and uncle that will be deeply missed by all.

He was born on July 27, 1929 to the late John and Dorthea (Sessler) Meno in Jamestown, Ohio. Immediately after graduating high school Bob enlisted in the United States Navy where he served four years. Then his life would change forever on July 11, 1953 when he joined hands in marriage to the love of his life Esther Koss at St. Mary Catholic Church.

Bob worked for Besser Co., where he became the Leader in the tool room and worked for nearly 40 years until his retirement in 1991. He also obtained his associates degree in education from Alpena Community College. Prior to his career at Besser Co., he also worked for Fletcher Paper Mill for a period of time.

Bob enjoyed many different activities such as fishing, boating, square dancing, playing euchre, gardening, lawn care, and spending time with his family. He was an avid handyman that enjoyed having his morning coffee on the lake. For the last 26 years winters were spent with his loving wife in Texas, where he volunteered at Knapp Hospital in Weslaco, Texas, they also loved partaking in the Amigos Christmas Party for children in Mexico. Bob was a member of the Checker Board Square Dancers, as well as the Cement Mixers.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years Esther (Koss) Meno, three children, Steven (William Chandler) Meno of Alpena, Sandra Krueger of Alpena, and Patricia (Larry) Crist of Cheboygan, nine grandchildren, Estuardo and Juan Carlos Meno, James (Emily) Krueger, Paul (Anna) Krueger, Melissa Krueger, Douglas (Jessica) Krueger, Anna (Jason) Peterson, Amelia Crist, and Seth Crist, eight great-grandchildren, Riley Grochowski, Annabelle Krueger, Quinten Krueger, Xavier Rouleau, Hunter Krueger, Lincoln Krueger, Drake Peterson, Emma Crist, two sisters, Georgetta Nolan and Joanne (Lyle) Shaw, sister-in-law Verna Koss, brother-in-law Ray (Nancy) Koss, and special friend Lisa Fulton.

He was preceded in death by a son, James “Jimmy” Meno, a daughter, Malea, a brother Theodore Meno, and a son-in-law Dennis Krueger.

Memorial visitation will take place on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2019 at First Presbyterian Church from 3 p.m. until the time of funeral service at 4 p.m. with Rev. Bill Rayment officiating. In lieu of flowers please consider a memorial contribution to the Friendship Room. McWilliams Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
