Helen Katherine Kreft, 89, of Alpena passed away Friday, July 12, 2019, at MidMichigan Medical Center-Alpena.

Helen Katherine Wisniewski was born Sept. 10, 1929, in Lapeer County to the late Frank and Catherine (Zmishloney) Wisniewski. On Sept. 9, 1950, she married Leopold Kreft. He preceded her in death on March 27, 1989. Helen and Leo owned and operated Leo’s Meat Market for 23 years. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and was very active with both the church and the school. She was also a member of St. Mary Rosary Society for over 60 years.

Surviving are her six children, Thomas (Sue) Kreft, Rosemary (Roger) Durham, Kathy (Patrick) Zbytowski, Laurie (Thomas) Smith, Ann (Thomas) Elsenheimer, Leo Kreft Jr.; 21 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Kreft was preceded in death by her siblings, Pete, Martha, Anthony, Veronica, Ann, Phil, Joseph, and Donald.

Memorial visitation will take place at St. Mary Church of All Saints Parish on Wednesday, July 17, 2019 from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. with Fr. James Fitzpatrick officiating. The rosary will be prayed at 10:15 a.m. Cremation arrangements have been by the Bannan Funeral Home.

Inurnment: Holy Cross Cemetery

In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church or All Saints School Scholarship Program.
