DAVID WILLIAM MacGILLIS

David William MacGillis, 88, of Lachine passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2019 at his home.

David was born in Detroit on Oct. 21, 1930 to the late John and Edna (Mills) MacGillis. At the age of 16, he joined the Army National Guard, serving as a Brigade Commander, Company Commander and retired as a Captain in 1988 after serving 42 years. Then he and Marilyn moved from Pontiac to the Alpena area in 2000. On June 23, 1956 he was married to his loving wife, Marilyn Barton. Dave served as Exaulted Ruler of Elks BPOE Lodge 810 of Pontiac in 1983, member of Moose Lodge Alpena and St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. He also enjoyed playing golf, watching basketball and Tiger baseball.

Surviving are his loving wife of 63 years, Marilyn; three children, Sheryl MacGillis, David and his wife Carrie MacGillis, Steven MacGillis; and granddaughter Kaylie MacGillis.

Mr. MacGillis was preceded in death by his brother, Donald MacGillis.

Visitation will take place on Wednesday at the Bannan Funeral Home from 2-8 p.m. with military honors by Alpena VFW Post 2496 at 5 p.m.; Elks Lodge service at 6 p.m. Visitation will continue on Thursday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Herron until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. with Rev. James Fitzpatrick officiating.
