JOSEPH C. GAPCZYNSKI

Joseph C. Gapczynski, age 90 of Rogers City, passed away March 26, 2019, at the Birch Lane AFC Home.

He was born March 20, 1929, in Rogers City to Cash and Jennie (Styma) Gapczynski.

Joe graduated from Rogers City High School in 1948. He served in the United States Army from 1951 through 1953. Mr. Gapczynski was co-owner of American Gas Products, Cash’s Oxygen and Welding Supplies and Cash’s Automotive in Rogers City. Opening in 1958, the Gapczynski Brothers had the oldest gas supply business in northern Michigan. Joe enjoyed reading the newspaper every day to keep up on current events. He loved telling people the history of Rogers City and Presque Isle County.

Mr. Gapczynski is survived by: two nephews, Gregory (Cathy) of Rogers City and Jeffrey (Christine) of Clinton Township; one niece, Ann (Brandon) Hale of Granbury, Texas; seven great-nieces and nephews, Jason (Salina), Aaron, Lacy (Jim) Otteman, Jill, Brandon Hale Jr., and Andrew and Jenny Putnam, six great-great-nieces and nephews, Taylor, Jaymes, Lauren and Leo Otteman, and Raylan and Avery Putnam.

He was preceded in death by: his parents, Cash and Jennie; brother and sister-in-law, Leo and Alice and his brother Alphonse.

Friends may visit at the Beck Funeral Home on Sunday, June 2 from 4-8 p.m. with rosary at 6:30. Visitation will resume on Monday at St. Ignatius Catholic Church from 9 a.m. until time of Mass at 10 a.m. with Father Rolando Silva officiating.

Rogers City VFW Post 607 will accord military honors following Mass.

Interment will take place at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to St. Ignatius Catholic School in memory of Joseph Gapczynski.
