Charles Andrew Clapp (Chuck), 87, passed away unexpectedly on Good Friday, April 19, 2019 in Highland, Ill.

Charles was born in Detroit to the late Thomas H. Clapp and Myrtle R. Lypps Clapp on May 19, 1931. He attended Cass Technological High School. He served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War aboard the U.S.S. Isherwood with duty as a Radar man. Upon his discharge he served an apprenticeship as a Tool and Die Maker with the Chrysler Corp. He retired in 1991 from Ford Motor Co. after 25 years of service.

He married the love of his life Marlene Louise Brehmer on Feb. 15, 1958. They were married 61 wonderful years. He is survived by his loving wife Marlene; daughter Karen L. (Walter) Malone, son Thomas C. (Kimberly) Clapp, and son Timothy G. Clapp; seven grandchildren: Trevor (Jenna) Cooke, Ashley (Anthony) D’Agostini, Kyle Malone, Ryan Malone, Katelyn Clapp, Eric Clapp and Nicholas Clapp; and his sister-in-law Ruth Clapp. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Thomas H. Clapp Jr.

Chuck enjoyed small-game hunting, fishing, boating and gardening. Upon retirement he and Marlene moved to Presque Isle, Mich., and lived 27 years on Long Lake where the entire family gathered each year for summer vacations. His sharp sense of humor and caring wisdom will be deeply missed. His family meant everything to him. “Families are forever.”
