THOMAS R. WOOD

Thomas ‘Tom’ R. Wood, 84, of Traverse City, passed away Nov. 19, 2018 leaving his loving wife and beautiful family to cherish his memories and live on in his legacy.

He was born in Lansing on April 22, 1934 to the late Raymond and Roma (Wise) Wood already bleeding the state colors of green and white. He was later an alumnus to the Spartans and notably was one of their biggest fans.

One of his biggest passions aside from his family was playing trumpet. Up until the end, his trumpet and the likes of Louie Armstrong were likely filling the house.

Tom was never short on a practical joke and would give all he loved a special nickname. He was the most generous of men and was an outstanding role model to both his family and the public sector that he served for many years as a juvenile director in the criminal justice division.

He spent much of his time after the work day bonding with his children and wife. He would spend countless hours lying on the floor playing board games and making memories that won’t soon be forgotten. Tom will always be remembered for his thoughtful behaviors, his quick wit and his easy-going ways.

Tom is survived and missed dearly by his wife Sharon (Bowers); his children, Sandra (Rich) Ebersole, Kevin Wood and Shelly (David) Orlee. He is also survived and missed dearly by his grandchildren, Jessica, Jack, Rob, David, Caitlin and Drew, as well as six great-grandchildren. He is also survived and missed by his brother Roger (Gwen) of Brighton and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his best pal and creator of the secret language, Uncle Dick.

A celebration of Tom’s life took place on Nov. 23, 2018 at the Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home.

Those considering an expression of sympathy in Tom’s honor may choose to do so to the Ebersole Foundation, something very near and dear to the family’s heart.

The family is being cared for and served by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
