JOHN JAMES SMIGELSKI

John was born in Alpena on Aug. 5, 1931 to the late John and Josephine (Precord) Smigelski and married Darlene Sylvester on April 14, 1956. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War and retired from the Fletcher Paper Company. John was active with HEAL. He was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. John’s passions were working in his yard and spending time with his grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife, Darlene; children, David of Alpena, Richard of California, Lynda (Gary) Kendziorski of Alpena; six grandchildren, Dr. Jessica Kendziorski, Dr. Sarah (fiance Dr. Alex Tarkington) Kendziorski, Jason Kendziorski, Luke Kendziorski, Parker Smigelski and Garrick Smigelski.

Mr. Smigelski was preceded in death by nine siblings.

Visitation will take place on Friday from 2-8 p.m. with military honors accorded him by VFW Alpena Post 2496 at 5 p.m. and a parish prayer service at 6 p.m. Visitation will continue at St. Bernard Church of All Saints Parish on Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. with Rev. Joseph Muszkiewicz officiating.
