Marilyn Mildred Whitscell, 81, of Alpena, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 9, 2018 at MediLodge of Alpena.

Marilyn was born on Jan. 23, 1937 to Roy and Nilah (Nichols) Wernette in Edmore, Mich., but was raised in Remus. Marilyn graduated from Central Michigan University in June of 1958 and then married Bill Whitscell on June 21. She had a love for music, beginning a career teaching piano, elementary music, and high school music in Farwell, Mich. Eventually Bill and Marilyn moved to Alpena where her teaching lead her to all the Alpena area elementary schools at some point. The two of them were blessed with three boys. Besides music she also enjoyed reading and puzzle books.

Marilyn is survived by her husband of 60 years, Bill; her three sons, Thane, Mark, Brian (Teresa); two brothers, Thane (Rita) Wernette, Gary (Carol) Wernette; eight grandchildren, Brandon, Shannon (Billy) Brousseau, Justin, Megan, Zackery, Noah, Sarah, Mandy; and three great-grandchildren; Callie, Amaya, and Emerson. She is preceded in death by both parents, and three siblings Leroy, Alfred, and Imelda. Marilyn will now see them all again in heaven. Amen!

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2018 from 6-8 p.m. at McWilliams Funeral Home. Visitation will continue Thursday at Grace Lutheran Church from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. with Rev. Tom Orth officiating.
