KENNETH L. MACKINNON

Kenneth L. MacKinnon, 83, of Alpena passed away Friday, Sept. 14, 2018 at Medilodge-Alpena, following an extended illness.

Ken was born Nov. 26, 1934, in Spruce to the late Dan and Rose (Sims) MacKinnon. On Aug. 24, 1957, he married Elaine Wilson at St. Anne Catholic Church in Alpena.

Ken was a builder by trade and was very meticulous about carpentry finish work. He enjoyed building homes from start to finish, and his skills were second to none. He was always eager to assist family and friends with their building projects and taught them to have patience like he had. Ken also enjoyed building furniture, wooden toys and refinishing antique wooden car parts. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and was a volunteer fireman for Alpena Township Fire Department for several years. Those that knew Ken would agree that he was soft spoken, took pride in everything he did and was very proud of his children and grandchildren.

Ken is survived by his loving wife Elaine of 61 years; sons, Dr. Kenneth (Karen) MacKinnon, Thomas (Beth) MacKinnon; daughter, Tammy (Mick) Buvia; three grandchildren, Stacy (Josh Demski) MacKinnon, Lindsay MacKinnon, Justin Buvia; two great-grandchildren, Jackson, Hudson; siblings, Betty Burham, Margaret (Harold) Eller, and Donald (Marilyn) MacKinnon.

Mr. MacKinnon was preceded in death by siblings, Kathryn Chase, Calvin MacKinnon, John MacKinnon and Robert MacKinnon.

Per Ken’s wishes cremation arrangements have been handled by the Bannan Funeral Home. A celebration of his life will take place at a later date.
