WILLIAM CANAVAN

William Canavan, 92, of Alpena, died Wednesday, June 27, 2018, at MidMichigan Medical Center-Alpena. Bill was born March 24, 1926, in Alpena to Frank and Edna (Atkinson) Canavan. He joined the Navy out of high school and later went to work as a shovel operator for National Gypsum. On Feb. 9, 1949, he married Mildred Neumann. Bill was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and a lifetime member of VFW Post 3890. He enjoyed hunting, watching sports, spending warm days on the sun porch, and fancied himself an amateur gunsmith.

Bill is survived by his wife of 69 years, Mildred; three children, Robert (Winnie) Canavan, Bruce Canavan, William II; seven grandchildren, Erik and Lindy Canavan, Shellie, Kelly, and Melanie Buck, Christopher Canavan, Rachael Canavan; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara Canavan Buck; and three siblings, Joyce, Myrna, and Delores.

Bill is at McWilliams Funeral Home where visiting hours will be from 2-8 p.m. on Monday, July 2, 2018. Visitation will resume on Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. with Rev. Joshua Schultz officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery with military honors being accorded by VFW Post 2496. Memorial donations can be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church.
