JOYCE D. MCLAIN

Joyce D. McLain, 88, of Alpena passed away Saturday, March 17, 2018, at her home after a long and courageous battle with heart disease.

Joyce Diemond was born in Alpena on Feb. 11, 1930, to the late Edward and Margaret (Bromund) Diemond. On Oct. 16, 1954, she married William C. “Bud” McLain. He preceded her in death on July 27, 1984.

Joyce worked for Circuit Court Judges Glennie and Swallow and as the 26th Circuit Court Administrator for several years until her retirement in 1992. Following retirement, she was elected to the Alpena County Board of Commissioners and served three terms, one of which as the Chairperson. She was a very active member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ and served as the church historian for many years. Joyce was an avid reader, gardener, bridge player, and cultivated a close group of friends.

Surviving are son, Dr. Jon (Michelle) McLain; daughter, Jo Getzinger; grandchildren, Erin (Simon) Gysber, Sean McLain; sisters, Phyllis Donakowski, Deanna Skidmore; brothers, Ralph (Kay) Diemond, Glen Diemond; several nieces, nephews, her cousin Catherine Hawks; and caretaker and niece Jan Canode.

Mrs. McLain was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Jay Getzinger; brother, Duane Diemond and sister, Margaret Elowsky.

Memorial visitation will take place on Saturday, March 24, 2018, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ from 12 noon until the time of the memorial service at 2 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Paul Lance officiating. Arrangements have been handled by the Bannan Funeral Home.
