JAMES ALDERIC AUBE

James was born July 30, 1936, to the late Alderic and Anna (LaBonte) Aube. Jim spent his whole life on Nicholson Hill Road living in two different homes, both within a one-mile stretch. He married Beverly Standen on Oct. 27, 1956, at St. Anne Catholic Church in Alpena.

Surviving are his wife, Beverly; six children, Sandy (Randy) Beaudoin, Rick (Vera), Mark (Tammy), Bob (Kim), Dale (Karen), Glenn (Julie); seven grandchildren, Amanda, Jeff, Amy, Stacy, Josh, Kayla, Jessica; 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Laurence (Lavona); sister, Lillian Scheske; and sister-in-law, Lucille Aube.

Mr. Aube was preceded in death by his infant son, Kevin; grandson, David; 11 siblings, Donia, Leo, Annabelle LaBonte, Eva Pender, Margaret Noble, Charles, Leon, Edward, Arthur, Raymond, Marie Brady.

A lifelong love of farming provided Jim with the opportunity to share his passion with his family and community. He was raised on the family farm and took over the dairy operation from his parents. It was there that he and Beverly raised their family and continued to operate the dairy until his retirement. They sold the farm and moved a half mile down the road. Jim continued to farm, but more for fun than work, as helped his sons and neighbors, including Chuck Timm Farms plow, plant, harvest and care for their animals. One of his favorite memories was of times spent helping his sons build pole barns as they started their own farming endeavors. Jim was a certified artificial insemination technician and worked for the Michigan Artificial Breeding Association. As an inspector for the Dairy Herd Improvement organization, he worked with other farmers to help improve production. Dairy farming wasn’t his only agricultural connection as he was involved with the Alpena Berry Growers Association, hauling truckloads of Alpena strawberries to Detroit to be sold at the Eastern Market. Jim also worked in the construction and concrete fields.

Caring for his community and neighbors was part of Jim’s every day. An active volunteer, he served as captain of the Sanborn Township Fire Department for more than 25 years. Recently, Jim was awarded recognition for 50 plus years of service to the fire department. In 1987, he was named Fire Fighter of the Year and received the Meritorious award for saving two lives from a burning home. A lifelong member of St. Catherine Catholic Church, Jim served on the Parish Council and was a member of the Usher Club. Jim served as president of the Board of Directors of the Marion Credit Union. He continued to help neighbors of his community in Ossineke by providing rides and helping to care for sick family members, as he believed strongly in giving back and taking care of others.

Friends may call at the Bannan Funeral Home on Friday from 2-8 p.m. with a Thunder Bay Fire Fighters bell ceremony at 6:45 p.m. and a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue Saturday at St. Catherine Catholic Church from 10 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. with Rev. Bob Bissot officiating.
