GERALDINE L. MELDRUM

Geraldine L. Meldrum, 85, of Alpena passed away Monday, Feb. 5, 2018, at Turning Brook Assisted Living Center.

Geraldine L. Knoblauch was born in Detroit on Dec. 23, 1932, to the late John and Leaetta (Elhinger) Knoblauch. She married Robert G. Meldrum on Oct. 17, 1953. After 59 years of marriage, he preceded her in death on Dec. 16, 2012.

Jerie and her husband Bob grew up in Redford Township, Mich. After being married seven years they made the trek north to Alpena where they raised six children on a 40-acre hobby farm in Long Rapids Township. Jerie loved to plant trees, can fruits and vegetables, play cards and board-games with family and above all sew. Many knew her for the beautiful quilts and creative costumes she displayed at craft shows across northern Michigan. In 1987, Bob and Jerie moved from the farm to the City of Alpena. Jerie worked at Maggie Ann’s Bridal Boutique and did alterations out of her home for over 25 years.

Jerie is survived by her daughters, Maureen (Richard) Elson of Crystal Falls, Ann Marie Meldrum of Alpena; sons, Stephen (Mary) Meldrum of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Gene (Alice) Meldrum of Muskegon, Kurt Meldrum of Hastings, Andrew (Yvette) Meldrum of Franklin, Tenn.; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a brother and three sisters including Nancy Waligora of Alpena; brothers-in-law, Ken Oke, Mike Meldrum of Alpena; sister-in-law, Arlene Meldrum of Alpena; and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Meldrum was preceded in death by her grandson, Justin Elson; sister, Marifrancis Hoefle; sisters-in-law, Mary Oke, Donna Meldrum; brothers-in-law, Fred Meldrum and Tom Waligora.

Visitation will take place at the Bannan Funeral Home on Friday from 2-8 p.m. and continue there Saturday from 1 p.m. until the funeral service at 2 p.m.
