BETTY VIRGINIA MERTZ

Betty Bernum was born Sept. 9, 1923, in Port Huron to the late Richard and Thelma (Jones) Bernum. Betty served in the United States Navy during World War II. On Oct. 29, 1947, she married Thomas Mertz. He preceded her in death on Sept. 10, 2009. Betty retired as a secretary from the City of Port Huron Police Department. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church.

Surviving are her daughter, Sue (Bob) Krafft; two grandchildren, Dr. Ryan (Sara) Krafft, Kelly (Dr. Bill) MacArthur; one great grandchild, Ben MacArthur; and brother, Bill Bernum.

Mrs. Mertz was preceded in death by her brother, Lee Bernum.

Memorial visitation will take place at Trinity Episcopal Church on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018, from 10 a.m. until the memorial service at 11 a.m. with The Very Rev. William J. McClure Jr. officiating. Cremation arrangements have been handled by the Bannan Funeral Home.
