BERNARD FRANCIS SCHULTZ

Bernard Francis Schultz, Jr., 89, of Alpena passed away Friday, Dec. 15, 2017, at MidMichigan Medical Center-Alpena.

Bernard was born in Alpena on Aug. 19, 1928, to the late Bernard and Marie (Piaskowski) Schultz. On Feb. 1, 1958, he married Margaret “Midge” Basch in Empire, Mich. She preceded him in death on Dec. 27, 2002. He served in the United States Army and returned to Alpena where he worked for Griffin Beverage until his retirement in 1990. Following his retirement, he enjoyed working for his son-in-law at North Shore Home Furnishings, playing cards at the Alpena Senior Citizens Center, camping with his family, morning coffee at Gen Ars, and afternoons at JJ’s.

Surviving are his three children, Julie and Bruce Dietz, Cindy and Don Glennie, Robert and LeAnn Schultz; six grandchildren, Justin and Lisa Dietz, Kayla and Erik Grangood, Staff Sgt. Nathan and Danielle Glennie, Sgt. Brandon Glennie, Nicholas Schultz, Hannah “Grandpa’s Girl” Schultz; three great grandchildren, Hayden, Dakoda, Alexis Glennie; and a brother, Richard Schultz.

Bernie was preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia VanDuzen, Sally York; and a brother, Dennis Schultz.

Visitation will take place on Monday at the Bannan Funeral Home from 2-8 p.m. with Military honors accorded him by VFW Alpena Post 2496 at 5 p.m. and a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Tuesday at St. John Church of All Saints Parish from 10 a.m. until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. with Rev. Joseph Muszkiewicz officiating.

Interment: Holy Cross Cemetery

In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Alpena Senior Citizens Center or Alpena FFA Chapter.
