ELDON DEAN KRENTZ

Eldon “Yogi” Dean Krentz, 81, of Alpena died Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017 at MidMichigan Medical Center-Alpena. Yogi was born Jan. 19, 1936 to Adolf and Emma (Bruski) Krentz in Hubbard Lake, Mich. Throughout his life Yogi learned to love everything outdoors including hunting, fishing, and golfing. He also enjoyed playing cards and spending time at camp with his “green tractor.” Coming from a large family, Yogi learned to appreciate spending time with his own family. Yogi was very proud to have served with the U.S. Army. He was very well known throughout the community as a great man who worked hard, and everyone enjoyed being around. Yogi was self-employed as a commercial masonry professional and many people knew his work as he had a very good reputation in the community.

On June 2, 1962 Yogi married Peggy (Shenk) Krentz and they would continue to be married for 54 years until she passed away on Sept. 3, 2015. On Dec. 30, 2016 Yogi married Doris (Bartz-Olson) at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Alpena, Mich.

Yogi is survived by, his wife Doris Krentz; daughter, Marcia (Terry) Lenard of Ossineke, Mich.; grandchildren, Kraig Lenard of Alpena, Mich., Glenn Lenard of Austin, Texas, Rebecca Karas of Ossineke, Mich., and Paul Olson of Winston Salem, N.C..; a sister, Geraldine Sherwood; and a brother Melborn “Pete” (Rose) Krentz.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Peggy, a daughter Heidi Jo Krentz, and 15 siblings, Albert Krentz, Harold Beitler, Reinhold Beitler, Hilda Kelly, Lydia Beitler, Fritz Beitler, Albert Beitler, Walt Beitler, Arnold Krentz, Adolf Krentz, Herman Krentz, Helen Ricketts, Ewald Krentz, Bertha Ware, and Alfred Krentz.

Visitation will be held at McWilliams Funeral Home-Alpena on Monday, Nov. 20 from 3-8 p.m. and continue Tuesday, Nov. 21 at First United Methodist Church from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral service at 11 a.m. with Rev. Sue Plath and Rev. Jim Erickson officiating. Interment will be at Evergreen cemetery with a private graveside service.
