CHARLES ONIS PRITTIE

Charles Onis Prittie, 94, of Ossineke went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2017.

He was born to Leonard G. and Helen A. (Underhill) Prittie in Natural Bridge, N.Y. on April 29, 1923. After his service in WWII he married Iris Beryle (Birdie) Vollen. They moved to Ossineke in 1946. Charlie was a member of Ossineke United Methodist Church, Alpena-Hopper Masonic Lodge #199 and the Spruce VFW. After his retirement from Millwrights Local #1102, you could find him picking berries, cutting wood, making pocket crosses or taking care of old people (many of whom were several years his junior). As a life-long outdoorsman, he loved to hunt and fish. Charlie was a man of God, known for the inlaid wooden crosses he made to give away, and for asking people, “Has anyone told you that they love you, yet today?”

He will be missed by his children Diane (Gary) Johnson of Spruce, Mich., Richard (Kathy Prittie of Ossineke, Patti (Brent) McCarley of Genesee, Mich., Cal (Sharon) Prittie of Flushing, Mich.; three sisters Florence Tueber, Carol (Dan) Herzig, Jane (Gill) Daby all of N.Y.; 10 grandchildren; Chad (Ann) Prittie, Brandi (Chris) Laundry, Jenny (Ray Meddaugh) Meyer, Kristin (Philip) Carriveau, Jessica (Scott Pilarski) Prittie, Sean McCarley, Charley McCarley, Jason (Patti) Prittie, Jef (Erika) Prittie, Beth Prittie; 12 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and his church family. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife “Birdie”; a son, Charles “Jay”; infant daughter, Donna; a brother, Richard; and three sisters Evangeline Rorke, Frances Mannellio and Ann Gaffney.

Charles Prittie has been taken for cremation by McWilliams Funeral Home-Alpena. Family and friends will gather on Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017 at First United Methodist Church in Ossineke from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 11 a.m. with Rev. Mike Kelley officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Michigan or Ossineke United Methodist Church.
