RICHARD JOSEPH NICHOLSON

Mr. Richard Joseph Nicholson of Dothan passed away Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2017. He was 74. Funeral services were held Aug.19, 2017, at St. Columba Catholic Church with Father Gallagher officiating. Burial followed in Memory Hill Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing.

Richard was born on Sept. 28, 1942, to the late William and Thelma June (Rouleau) Nicholson, in Detroit. He attended St. Anne’s Catholic Church and graduated from Catholic Central High School and graduated from Alpena Community College.

He served in the U.S. Army in Korea and Vietnam. He met the love of his life, Alice, while being stationed at Fort Rucker in Alabama. After returning from service, he was emmployed for several years at CASE Engineering in Midland, Mich.

On July 12, 1968, he married the love of his life, Alice Gilley in Dothan, Ala. They recently celebrated 49 years of marriage. Richard worked at Farley Nuclear Plant for over 30 years as a nuclear engineer. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and loved to build and fly model planes. He was also the Georgia State Champion in Go Kart Racing.

Richard loved and cherished his family very much. He was always happy to help those around him. His wife, children grandchildren and great-grandchildren and families were his pride and joy.

He was preceded in death by his parents William R. Nicholson and Thelma June (Rouleau) Nicholson; his great-grandchild Addison Allen; niece Ginger M. Nowicki; nephew Scott “Richard” Nowicki; and brother-in-law Jack L. Johnson.

He is survived by his wife Alice Nicholson of Dothan; daughters Monnette Creamer (Walt, Nick’s right hand man) of Dothan; Brenda Cutchen (Stanley) of Granbury, Texas; sisters Carol (Jack) Johnson of Midland, Mich.; Janice Nowicki (Gerald) of Alpena; Julie Corwin (Robert B.) of Alpena; brothers Lawrence “Larry” Nicholson (Marcia) of Freeland, Mich.; Charles Nicholson of Alpena; grandchildren Tara Palmer (Justin), Kelli Carroll (Clint), Paul Cutchen, Alicia Cutchen; and great-grandchildren Nicholas Dawsey, Christian Traylor, Canaan Carroll, and Emerson Allen. He also is survived by nieces and nephews Lisa Johnson, Christopher and Jason Nicholson, Kimberly and Darin Dana, Jeffrey and Robert Nowicki, William, Charles and Genevieve Nicholson, and Michael, Jennifer and Patrick Corwin.
