ERNA KRAMER

Erna Kramer, 101, formerly of Alpena passed away on Oct. 7, 2016, at Sunshine Garden Care Home.

Erna Kirschner was born on June 1, 1915, in Wilson Township, Mich., to the late Gottlieb and Augusta (Kran) Kirschner. Her parents immigrated to the United States in 1914 and Erna was the first of her family to be born in America. She married Simon Kramer on Oct. 4, 1952 in Detroit. He preceded her in death on Dec. 10, 2001.

Erna worked for many years, beginning here in Alpena, at the Bean Factory and the Garment Factory, then moving to Detroit where she worked for Chrysler Corp., Bull Dog Electric and Park Davis. Upon retirement, she and Sam moved back to Alpena where they joined St. Paul Lutheran Church and were active members for many years. They were also active in the community delivering Meals on Wheels.

Surviving are her brother, Donald (Betty) Kirschner of Alpena; one grandson, Michael Halleck; three great-grandsons, Matthew, Daniel, and Jeffrey Halleck; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Erna was preceded in death by two sons, Joe Halleck in 1932 and Ronald Halleck in 1991; daughter-in-law, Sally Halleck; one grandson, David Halleck; three sisters, Linda Pake, Margaret Straley, and Freida McDonald; three brothers, Theodore Kirschner, Arnold H. Kirschner, and Herman Kirschner; three half-sisters, Olga Hoppe, Ida Schepke, Amanda Kihn; and one half-brother, Edmund Kirschner.

Mrs. Kramer is at the Bannan Funeral Home where friends may call on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. Visitation will continue on Monday at St. Paul Lutheran Church from 10 a.m. until time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. with Rev. Shirley Ross-Jones officiating.
