Mayor Johnson selected as Red Kettle chair
The Salvation Army Advisory Board has chosen their fourth Annual Red Kettle Chairperson. Major Prezza Morrison announced in a press release Wednesday that Alpena Mayor Cind Johnson would lead the organization’s largest fundraiser of the year this holiday season.
“Everyday Mayor Cindy dedicates herself to the needs of Alpena to create a place people in our community would be proud of. She works to assist people in the community to build a better life for themselves,” Morrison said. “This is the goal of The Salvation Army, to assist people to build a stable life and we feel that Mayor Cindy works to do just that.”
Last year, The Salvation Army, at the last minute, reached their goal of $185,000. This year’s goal will be announced at its Kettle Kick Off event. Information concerning this event will be announced soon.
Last year, with the help of the community, The Salvation Army was able to serve 225 families, 503 children, 913 total people, with 225 food baskets and over 2500 toys. “Without the community’s help this would not be possible.” Major said.
The Salvation Army thanks the community of Alpena County for their continued support. “We can serve the numbers we serve because of the generosity of our neighbors. Your care is shown in your giving, and we are very grateful.”
