Wildcats girls’ swim team loses 109-57 against Gaylord

ALPENA — On Thursday, the Alpena Wildcats swim team hosted the Gaylord Blue Devils for an exciting evening of competition.

Kicking off the event, junior Addison Wesaw and freshman Maddox McClinitic performed the National Anthem.

Despite a final score of 57-109 in favor of Gaylord, the Wildcats had a strong showing, with several swimmers achieving personal best times in their individual events.

Standout performances included Eva Trainer in the 200-yard individual medley; Addison Wesaw, Madelyn Farley, Allie Donajkowski, and Maddox McClintic in the 50-yard freestyle; Tryst Bukowiecki, Eva Trainer, Addison Wesaw, and Allie Donajkowski in the 100-yard freestyle; Elizabeth Rabbideau in the 500-yard freestyle; Bailee Diemond in the 100-yard backstroke; Annette Faircloth in the 100-yard breaststroke; and Sarah Rabbideau in both the 100-yard freestyle and the 100-yard breaststroke.

The team continues to focus on honing their skills through targeted drills and technique work. Their training regimen includes a balance of warm-ups, main sets, and cool-downs, along with specialized drills such as interval training, perfecting streamlines, improving turns, and practicing solid finishes.

A key element to the Wildcats’ success has been the team’s work ethic and the balance between personal goals and team support. The energy from teammates cheering each other on has made every race a positive experience, regardless of the outcome.

The Wildcats will host John Glenn on Tuesday.
