ALPENA — Successful hunters can display their harvest at buck poles in Alpena and Hillman on Wednesday.

The Alpena buck pole, returning after a three-year hiatus because of the COVID-19 pandemic, will be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday in the vacant lot across the street from the Cracker Barrel Party Store and Market on Chisholm Street.

Any hunter who lives, works, or hunts in Alpena County can bring their bucks to the pole to receive $20. More than $2,000 in prizes will be handed out to the hunter who harvests the buck with the biggest rack, to the teen who harvests the buck with the biggest rack, and the lady who harvests the buck with the biggest rack. Food and drinks also will be available.

Boy Scouts Troop 92 from Alpena will be on-hand to help.

The Hillman buck pole will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Patchwood Plaza, 14797 State St. S., Hillman.

Open to any hunter who takes a deer within 30 miles of HIllman, that pole, too, will award prizes for largest overall rack, largest rack taken by a lady, and largest rack taken by a hunter 16 years old or younger, along with prizes for most antler points over 1 inch, heaviest buck taken by a man, heaviest buck taken by a woman, and heaviest buck taken by a young hunter.
