TBT offering summer camps for kids, teens

News File Photo Thunder Bay Theatre is still under construction, but TBT will offer summer camps for kids and teens in July at Alpena Civic Theatre.

ALPENA — Thunder Bay Theatre will be hosting musical theater camps for preschoolers through high school July 11 to 15. TBT alumna Emily Senkowsky of Sing with Emily is returning to Alpena to lead the camps at Alpena Civic Theatre.

For the younger actors, Senkowsky will be leading a week-long camp exploring “Encanto!” Sing, dance, and act all of your favorite songs and scenes from the movie. Make crafts, create your own costumes and sets, and more. Students will perform a final show on the last day of camp. The “Encanto!” camp is offered in a full-day and a half-day session.

For the older students, Creating a Cabaret is an exciting showcase course exploring how to create a cabaret. Students will sing, dance, work on scenes, and more. Students will perform their final show on the last day of class. This camp will be held in the evenings.

It costs $75 for the full-day session (grades K-8) and $50 for the partial-day sessions: “Encanto!” half-day (ages 3-6), and Creating a Cabaret (grades 9-12).

Senkowsky is in need of volunteers age 15 and up to help her lead the camps.

TBT Board President Anne Gentry said, “We are excited to have Emily come to lead the camps, and we are especially grateful to the board of Alpena Civic Theatre for allowing us to use their space while our building is still inoperable.”

For more information or to register for the camps, visit thunderbaytheatre.com or call 989-354-2267.

Senkowsky studied vocal performance at NYU Steinhardt, where she learned the value of a strong foundation in vocal technique, as well as the importance of a supportive studio to learn and grow. As a performer, she has worked for various professional theatres around the country. She also runs The Chicago Carolers, a premier caroling group in the Chicagoland area.
