APS board agrees to ACES sale

The Alpena Public Schools board on Monday agreed to sell the former ACES Academy building on Pinecrest Street to Dargis Properties for $380,000.

The company twice raised its offer to beat out several other bids ranging from $18,000 to $271,000.

The owner of Dargis Properties, Dr. David Dargis, told the board he intends to use the property to create senior or Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant housing.

ACES relocated to the Alpena High School building before the start of the current school year. The district began accepting bids for the ACES building in early 2022.
