POLICE BLOTTER: Numerous icy-day crashes occupy Montmorency County deputies

Recent actions by law enforcement agencies in Northeast Michigan. This has been only lightly edited.

Dec. 13

6:04 p.m.: A vehicle deer accident was reported in Loud Township; the driver was not injured; a deputy responded and took the report.

6:06 p.m.: A Deputy responded to the scene in Vienna Township where a vehicle had experienced some sort of malfunction in the road on Meridian Line Rd. A deputy assisted with traffic control while a tow company assisted the motorist. All units cleared without incident.

9:17 p.m.: A Briley Township resident came into the lobby of the department to report an ongoing dispute; Deputy took report.

Dec. 14

3:36 a.m.: Lewiston Fire Department responded to a potential gas leak in Albert Township; Fire units determined it must be coming from a gas well site. PIE&G was notified. All units cleared without incident.

8:39 a.m.: A welfare check request was called in to dispatch on a resident of Albert Township. A Deputy responded to find the subject to be fine just not feeling well.

Dec. 16

Due to weather conditions and extreme wind there were many calls involving power outages, down trees and down power lines across Montmorency County; many fire units from corresponding townships responded, as well as the road commission and PIE&G.

Dec. 17

5:58 a.m.: A passerby called to report a silver sedan sitting at an intersection in Briley Township. She stated that the driver was slumped over. A Deputy responded to the scene, the vehicle was gone prior to arrival.

7:31 a.m.: Multiple 911’s came in to dispatch referencing a tree on fire in Briley Township. Tri Township fire responded to the scene but the fire was out prior to their arrival.

Dec. 18

6:32 a.m.: An off-duty trooper called to report the car in front of her drove into a pole in the Village of Hillman. Hillman Fire and EMS responded to the scene. The driver declined to be transported to the hospital.

11:16 a.m.: A one vehicle slide off in Briley Township was reported; law enforcement along with Tri Township fire responded to the scene. No injuries were reported and all units cleared without incident.

11:21 a.m.: A multiple vehicle crash in Vienna Township was reported, DNR was on scene along with Vienna Fire and Tri Township EMS.

11:22 a.m.: A vehicle in the ditch in Briley Township was reported by a passerby, a deputy responded to the scene along with Tri Township Fire; no injuries were reported.

11:35 a.m.: Multiple 911s reported a two-vehicle crash on M33 North near Co Rd 624. Tri Township Fire & EMS along with Hillman Fire and EMS all responded to the scene. One subject was transported to the hospital for injuries.

11:58 a.m.: A vehicle in the ditch on Co Rd 491 was reported to dispatch. Law enforcement along with Vienna Fire responded to the scene. No injuries were reported.

12:48 Multiple vehicles slid through the intersection of Co Rd 612 and Meridian Line Rd. A deputy responded to the scene, along with Lewiston Fire and EMS, and Vienna Fire.

2:48 p.m.: A vehicle on its side was reported to dispatch via 911. The driver was not injured. Hillman Fire and EMS along with MSP Trooper and DNR all responded to the scene.

Dec. 19

3:26 a.m.: A Deputy responded to a wounded dog in Hillman Township; the dog appeared to have been shot but the reporting person had tended to the wounds prior to contacting the center for law enforcement to come pick up the animal. The dog was taken to the Elk County Animal Shelter.

7:03 a.m.: Deputies responded to a residential burglar alarm in Briley Township; the residence was found to be secure and all units cleared without incident.

11:30 a.m.: While on routine patrol a Deputy initiated a traffic stop in the Village of Hillman, the driver was found to be driving on an expired plate and without insurance. She was cited for no security.

6:20 p.m.: While on routine patrol in Briley Township a Deputy initiated a traffic stop; the driver was found to be driving on a suspended license and was cited for this. Officer cleared without incident.
