LANSING — The Alpena Community College cross country team hit midseason in stride Friday at the Lansing CC Invitational. Five of the seven Lumberjack runners hit season bests during the unseasonably warm weather in Lansing.

“Overall, we had an outstanding day,” ACC Coach Mark Jacobs said. “It was 80 degrees today, something we haven’t seen in a while; but we’ll take this kind of weather over rain and sleet any day of the week. This is the same course we run for regionals, so today was a good test for us. These guys keep pushing hard and lowering their times. That’s all I can ask for.”

In the 30-team meet, including several four-year schools, John Siegert (Ludington) again led the Lumberjacks with a season best time of 28:53. Following Siegert was Teddy Peters (Onaway) 31:11, Musa Kabbah (Liberia, Africa) 31:43, Connor Bagnell (Memphis) 31:56, Duncan Ross (Rogers City) 34:38 and Natanael Macean (Petit-Goave, Haiti) 40:26.

“We’ve got less than four weeks in the season and our guys know the work we still need to put in,” Jacobs said. “This is a fantastic group to coach, they listen and are willing to do what is necessary to keep improving.”

The Lumberjacks next travel to Muskegon on Oct. 18 to finish the regular season before heading back to Lansing for regionals at the end of the month.
