POLICE BLOTTER: Montmorency County deputies handle crashes, storm aftermath

Aug. 23

11:55 a.m: A male subject in the lobby to request a civil standby. The 53-year-old male from Farwell was found to have a warrant out of Presque Isle County. Subject was lodged and then picked up by Presque Isle County.

9:32 p.m: Dispatch received a call for an erratic driver in Hillman Township; A Deputy responded and located the vehicle and initiated a stop. Officer cleared without incident; driver was given a verbal warning about their driving.

11:43 p.m: Officers responded to a verbal dispute in Briley Township; the parties were initially separated for the evening. Deputies responded again to the same home where the female subject was arrested for domestic violence and lodged in Alpena Jail. Officers cleared without incident.

Aug. 24

7 a.m: A deputy responded to an alarm at the Clear Lake State Park. An employee accidently set the alarm off and everything was secure.

5 p.m: Hillman Fire/EMS and deputies responded to a one vehicle rollover on Pleasant Valley Rd near Hayes Rd. The vehicle was found to be on its side, no one was injured. All units cleared at 6:27 p.m:.

7:26 p.m: Deputies responded to an alarm at a local business on State St in Atlanta. The business was found to be secure.

Aug. 25

10:50 p.m: Deputies responded to an alarm on logging equipment in Albert Township; all equipment was found to be secure.

Aug. 26

10:16 p.m: A welfare check was requested on an Avery Township resident: a deputy responded and located the subject who was found to be fine. Officers cleared without incident.

Aug. 27

8:19 a.m: A dispute was called into the sheriff’s office; a deputy responded and spoke with the subjects. It was a verbal dispute and the deputy cleared without incident.

9:46 a.m: A tree that had been leaning fell on a power line near a residence in Avery Township; Tri Township Fire Department along with PIE&G all responded to the scene.

12:33 p.m: A traffic stop in Loud Township resulted in the driver being issued a citation for no insurance, and driving without a license, the vehicle was towed from the scene.

12:47 p.m: Dispatch received a call regarding a tree across Co Rd 612 near Fleming Rd., dispatch contacted the road commission to remove the tree.

2:30 p.m: A male subject with a court order for child custody requested an officer assist him in getting his child as the mother would not give him the child per the order. A deputy went to the residence and assisted.

10:09 p.m: A verbal dispute was reported in Hillman Township; deputies responded to the scene. Deputies spoke with the subjects, they separated for the night and deputies cleared without incident.

Aug. 28

12:36 a.m: Deputies responded to a single vehicle accident in Briley Township; the subject involved was found to be fine and refused EMS services. The male subject was arrested for OWI and lodged in the Alpena County Jail. Officers cleared without incident.

12:30 p.m: A resident of Albert Township called to request a welfare check on her neighbor; a deputy responded to the residence. The subject was found to be camping with her son, she was fine.

3:51 p.m: A verbal dispute in the Village of Hillman was reported via 911. A deputy responded to the scene to speak with both subjects.

11:53 p.m: A Deputy, Tri-Township EMS and Fire units all responded to a single vehicle crash in Briley Township. The driver was not injured and was cited for texting while driving. All units cleared without incident.

Aug. 29

3:39 a.m: A Deputy responded to a vehicle that had swerved to miss hitting a deer, the driver was found to be uninjured but the vehicle was stuck in a foot of water. MD Towing also responded to the scene and assisted with towing the vehicle out of the ditch. The Deputy and tow truck cleared without incident. The driver continued home.

1:47 p.m: A deputy while on routine patrol, stopped to assist a motorist in Rust Township, the deputy cleared without incident.

2:58 p.m: A welfare check request was called into the sheriff’s department on a resident in Loud Township; the subject was fine, states his phone isn’t working; contact RP to advise.

3:00- 5:00 p.m: Multiple calls came into dispatch regarding the storm, trees down, power lines down and on fire, Lewiston, Tri- Township, Hillman and Vienna fire departments all worked through the storm to clear the trees from the roads in Montmorency County.

3:21 p.m: A vehicle headed westbound on Co Rd 612 during the storm was struck by a tree, the tree landed on the vehicle, a deputy responded along with Albert Township fire department responded to the scene. No injuries were reported.

6:00- 8:10 p.m: Multiple calls came into the center regarding the after effects of the storm; many down trees, down powerlines, transformers being on the ground and power outages. Tri-Township and Hillman Fire departments responded to calls as well as PIE&G. All fire units cleared without incident.

9:35 p.m: A Deputy as well as Tri-Township EMS and Fire responded to a single vehicle accident. The driver had hit a tree in Loud Township; the driver was not injured. All units cleared without incident.
