Alcona wins home meet

LINCOLN — Alcona took top honors during a three-team meet at home Tuesday.

Alcona’s boys team finished with 233 points to beat Whittemore-Prescott and Oscoda; Alcona girls team finished with 220 points.

Collectively, Alcona won 28 events on the day.

Winners for Alcona included:

BOYS

Gavin Walker in the 100 dash (12.14); Jacob Sytek in the 200 dash (24.03) and 400 dash (54.72); Carter Upper in the 800 run (2:34.88), 1,600 run (5:37.33) and 3,200 run (12:30.78); Hunter Rigby in the 110 hurdles (19.86) and high jump (4-10); Hayden Johnston in the 300 hurdles (54.99) and long jump (16-6 1/4); the 400 relay team of Fallon Hux, Chris Barnes, Zach Stephenson and Hunter Rigby (51.47); the 800 relay team of Hux, Barnes, Walker and Sytek (1:43.85); the 1,600 relay team of Stephenson, Walker, Barnes and Sytek (4:09); Jakob Tanner in the shot put (34-5 1/4) and discus (91-3); and Stephenson in the pole vault (11-0).

GIRLS

Lily Bilbey in the 100 dash (12.99) and 200 dash (27.0); Emma Travis in the 400 dash (1:11.90); Karen Sharboneau in the 800 run (3:03.83); Sara Decker in 1,600 run (7:00.08); Caroline Forsythe in the 100 hurdles (19.30); Travis, Sharboneau, Bilbey and Caroline Forsythe in the 400 relay (54.88); Samatha Nordstrom, Victoria Skuse, Delaney Forsythe and Alisha Reed in the 800 relay (2:27.06); Sharboneau, Bilbey, Caroline Forsythe and Kelsey Hansen in the 1,600 relay (4:46.02); Hansen in the shot put (31-0 1/4) and long jump (14-4) and Brielle Keyser in the discus (97-7).

BASEBALL

Alcona beats Cadillac

CADILLAC — Fast starts paid off for the Alpena baseball team in 5-1 and 9-2 wins over Cadillac on Tuesday.

In the opener, Alpena scored twice in the first inning and then tacked on three more runs in the seventh inning.

Travis Weide led Alpena with two hits and an RBI; Matt Thompson and Ryan Lee each had an RBI and Keegan Hahn scored two runs. Weide went the distance on the mound, allowing a run on one hit with 10 strikeouts and two walks.

Alpena scored five runs in the first inning of the second game to set the tone. Alex Cadarette, Weide and Kadyn Budnik had two hits each and Budnik and Charlie Williams each had two RBI.

Hahn earned the victory, pitching a complete game while allowing two runs on seven hits with nine strikeouts and three walks.

SOFTBALL

Alpena splits with Cadillac

CADILLAC — The Alpena softball team opened Big North Conference play with a split a Cadillac on Tuesday, losing 5-0 and winning 16-10.

In the opener, Alpena (5-4, 1-1 Big North) had a pair of runners on base in the first inning with one out and couldn’t score them. Cadillac scored twice in the first inning and three times in the fourth inning.

In the second game, Allie DeRocher and Gabby Smith had three hits each. Macy Schram had three hits, including a home run and Sydney Chojnacki had two hits, including a home run.

Alpena hosts Garden City on Friday at 5 p.m.

GIRLS SOCCER

TC West 8, Alpena 2

TRAVERSE CITY — Alpena (1-8, 0-4 Big North Conference) trailed 5-2 with 20 minutes to play, but a flurry of goals by the Titans in the remaining time gave them ample cushion for a victory.

Reese Wisniewski had a goal and an assist for Alpena and Kami Schultz added a goal.

Alpena hosts Traverse City Central on Thursday.

JV BASEBALL

Alpena routs Cadillac

ALPENA — The Alpena JV baseball team turned in a dominant performance at home against Cadillac on Tuesday, beating the Vikings 15-0 and 11-0.

In the opener, Alpena scattered 13 hits. Gabe Glawe had three and Brady Kollen, Brady Pagels and Marc Kirchner each had two. Kollen and Kirchner each had three RBI.

Four Alpena pitchers combined to strike out three, walk two and allow one hit.

In the second game, all of Alpena’s runners came in the first two innings. Landen Spomer, Caleb McEwen and Kaleb Donajkowski each had two hits. Spomer had two RBI.

Three Alpena pitchers combined to allow one hit, walked none and struck out five.
