ATLANTA — The search for a missing boy in Montmorency County that lasted most of the day, ended in tragedy as the boy’s body was discovered.

Alpena County Sheriff Steve Kieliszewski confirmed today the remains of Charles Cordes, 15, were discovered by a search-and-rescue dog in or near water, where it is believed he may have drowned.

The boy, who had Down syndrome, was last seen riding his bike near his home in the 4500 block of M-33 South.

His bike, slippers, belt, and glasses all were found in a hayfield early in the search.

No further information was immediately available.
