Local school board ROUNDUP
A roundup of recent activity by Northeast Michigan school boards:
∫ The Alpena Public Schools Board of Education approved contracts with Integrated Designs Inc. to act as architects and Wolgast Corp. to act as construction manager on bond-funded renovation projects.
The board also bought one propane bus for $102,965 and three diesel buses for $286,740, all from Midwest Transit. The costs will be paid through a state grant.
The board also bought a 3D dissection table from Anatomage for $47,450 for the district’s Career and Technical Educational program.
The board appointed Leo Fitzpatrick to a position of the Alpena-Montmorency-Alcona Educational Service District Board of Education to fill a vacancy expiring on June 30, 2025 and acknowledged the retirement of Karen Zinke, Alpena High School instructional assistant, effective April 30. Zinke is retiring after 28 years of service.
∫ The Hillman Community Schools Board of Education appointed Trustee Donna Tucker to the AMA-ESD Board of Education.
The board also approved a bus financing bid from Chemical Bank for up to $550,000 with an interest rate of 2.59% for a period of six years.
∫ The Atlanta Community Schools Board of Education nominated Amy Corbin to the AMA ESD board of education and Joe Soncrainte as the alternate representative.
The board also hired Quast, Janke & Company as certified public accountants through 2023.
∫ The Onaway Area Community Schools Board of Education hired Jayson Raymond as a math teacher and the firm Stephenson, Gracik & Co. of West Branch as district auditors. The board also updated its current-year budget.
∫ The Alpena-Montmorency-Alcona Educational Service District Board of Education approved employee contracts for the 2020-21 school year and scheduled a budget hearing for 6 p.m. June 11at the ESD Office Building.
∫ The Alpena Community College Board of Trustees bought 30 CISCO videoconferencing delivery systems to be installed in Alpena campus classrooms for a cost not to exceed $170,661 with money from the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.
The board also approved a contract with Great Lakes Roofing & Insulation Systems Inc. to replace the entire Van Lare Hall roof membrane at a cost not to exceed $292,500.
The board also bought a chassis dynamometer from Mustang Dynamometer of Twinsburg, Ohio for a cost not to exceed $34,955.
The board acknowledged the retirement of Kevin Sylvester, a concrete technology instructor, effective Monday.
∫ The Rogers City Area Schools Board of Education acknowledged the retirements of Cynthia Waibel, an elementary teacher, and Colleen Vogler, an elementary aide.
