ALPENA — The state now reports zero cases of coronavirus infection in Presque Isle County, one day after reporting that county’s first confirmed infection in what county officials said was an “error in documentation.”

The state’s latest numbers, updated at 3 p.m. today, show zero cases in Alpena, Presque Isle, Montmorency, or Alcona counties, though all contiguous counties have multiple confirmed cases of COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronaviru, with Otsego County’s 22 cases leading the way.

Public health officials said residents should stay home unless absolutely necessary, regardless of whether a case is confirmed their community.

At 3 p.m. Friday, the state reported one case in Presque Isle County, though local health and emergency officials said they had no such case in their records. The reason for the discrepancy wasn’t immediately clear.

Statewide, 14,225 cases and 541 deaths have been reported. The overwhelming majority of those cases are in Southeast Michigan.
