No serious injuries in truck rollover

News Photo by Julie Riddle A tractor-trailer driver hauling a full load of gravel from the Lafarge Presque Isle Quarry east of Grand Lake escaped serious harm when his truck rolled into a ditch on East Grand Lake Road on Monday afternoon. The driver swerved to avoid hitting a young driver on a side-by-side, according to fire personnel who were present to make sure the truck’s decimated engine compartment didn’t present a fire hazard as a towing crew figured out how to remove the twisted vehicle from the ditch. The side-by-side’s driver was uninjured. The incident is still under investigation, according to a Michigan State Police trooper. The driver of the tractor-trailer, who had climbed out of the truck’s crushed cab by the time emergency personnel arrived, was transported to Mid-Michigan Medical Center-Alpena with non-critical injuries.
