ROUNDUP: Closures announced today (March 15)

Everything announced closed today because of the coronavirus:

* The Alcona County Library is suspending operations beginning today to help avoid the spread of the coronavirus.

* The Alpena County Library has announced that, because of the concerns and suggested precautions surrounding the spread of COVID-19 and large gatherings, Mr. Sedaris has decided to cancel the first portion of his tour which includes his stop in Alpena on April 18th.

The library is issuing full refunds and attendees will receive an email within the next 1-2 days to confirm a refund has been issued, or in the case of in-person ticket purchases, is in process. Attendees who purchased tickets at the library but did not provide any contact information will need to contact the library to provide proper information for a refund to be issued.

* Great Lakes Maritime Heritage Center is closed until further notice. The museum issued the following notice: “For the health and safety of our guests, volunteers, and employees, and as a precautionary measure to limit the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), the Great Lakes Maritime Heritage Center will be closed until further notice. We will continue to reassess the situation. We understand this closure is an inconvenience for visitors, and we apologize. Our top priority is the health of our guests who come to learn about the National Marine Sanctuary System, as well as the staff and volunteers who support our visitor centers.”

* Brush Creek Mill in Hillman is closed until further notice. No meetings will be held. Should you have a rental scheduled during this time, you may reschedule it when the Mill reopens. Should you have questions about your rental, you may call Jane Heiden at 989-742-2376. All other business, the Mini Grant Award Ceremony, and the Student Writing Contest is on hold until the Mill reopens.

* The Power of Parenting workshop scheduled for Tuesday evening in Alpena has been canceled.

* The Alpena Figure Skating Club’s annual ice show that was scheduled for March 20 and 21 has been canceled.

* The Friends of Plaza Pool Euchre Tournament fundraiser that was scheduled for March 21 has been canceled.

* The March 27 used book sale at the hospital has been canceled.

* Alpena Garden Club has canceled its April 6 meeting.

* MediLodge of Alpena and Green View is discouraging visitation upon the guidance issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and state and local agency recommendations and restrictions. If people must visit the facility, there will be a screening recommended by the government prior to entry, which could result in access being denied. According to a statement released by the facility March 12, neither center currently has any active cases of COVID-19. For more information, people are asked to contact the center.

* Thunder Bay Theatre’s Let’s Talk panel discussion for Women’s History Month that had been scheduled for March has been postponed to April 29.

* Alpena Public School’s Board of Education meeting is canceled for Monday, March 16, according to an announcement released on the school’s Facebook page.
