Winter beauty

News Photos by Julie Riddle

Photographer and substitute science teacher Andrew Wolfgang was awestruck Monday by the spectacular ice formations created by freezing on Thunder Bay. With a roar of cracking class, the bay drove thick ice toward the shore, laying layer after layer of ice shards in intricate, breathtaking formations on a frigid winter afternoon. Wolfgang, new to Alpena and its winters, took in nature’s offerings and glanced toward the nearby parking lot, hoping more people were coming to see the splendor that life on a Great Lake has to offer.
