Clear snow from hydrants, firefighters ask

Alpena resident Dwight Sell, 88, clears snow Tuesday from the fire hydrant near his house on Lewis Street and 2nd Avenue. He’s been doing the chore every winter since 1979, he said, and, “since the Lord’s blessed me with good health, I might as well keep doing it.” The Alpena Fire Department requests that residents shovel paths from hydrants to the street and in a 3-foot swath around the hydrant to help keep neighbors and their homes safe.
