Presque Isle Quarry honored by NSSGA

The National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association honored the Lafarge Presque Isle Quarry with awards in the areas of Community Relations Excellence and Environmental Excellence, the company said in a news release.

The Presque Isle Quarry also received NSSGA’s Two Stars of Excellence Award for repeated Gold Awards for Safety, Environmental or Community Relations Excellence within five years. The operation received an Environmental Gold Award in 2018.

“We are proud of our teams here at LafargeHolcim for their ongoing efforts to reach new levels of excellence in their operations,” Jay Moreau, CEO of U.S. Aggregate Construction Materials, said in a statement. “It’s exciting to see this national recognition for Presque Isle for building strong, long-lasting relationships within its community.”

Timber Tax Workshop

Dec. 10

The Alcona Conservation District will host a Timber Tax Workshop from 5 to 7 p.m. Dec. 10 at the Alcona Natural Resources Field Office, 320 S. State Street, Harrisville.

Susan Metcalfe, of Metcalfe Forestry, will discuss capital gain treatment of timber harvest, cost basis of timber, timber depletion allowance, proper tax record-keeping, and forest property tax abatement programs, according to a news release from the Conservation District.

The program is free and open to the public.
