Bell ceremony commemorates Edmund Fitzgerald ship

News Photo by Julie Riddle

A community member in attendance at Saturday’s bell ringing ceremony at Roger City’s Great Lakes Lore Maritime Museum commemorates the 44th anniversary of the November 10th sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald in the 35- to 52-foot waves of Lake Superior in 1975. In an annual ceremony, the bell was rung 30 times, once for each crew member lost in the tragedy and a final ring for all sailors lost at sea. Bell ringings for the SS Daniel J. Morrell and the SS Carl D. Bradley, both with strong Rogers City ties, will be held at the museum on the next two Saturdays.
