268 jobs filled in Sept.

The Michigan Works! Northeast Michigan Consortium filled 268 jobs in September, the agency said in its monthly newsletter.

Those positions had an economic wage impact of $8.5 million, the agency said.

Also in September:

∫ 1,787 people visited the Michigan Works! offices

∫ 103 new employers were worked with

∫ 242 total job postings were placed for employers, and employers posted 172 jobs themselves

NEMCSA announces $12,500

in donations

The North East Michigan Community Service Agency on Friday announces two donations:

∫ $10,000 from Huntington Bank will allow NEMCSA to launch the new SOAR initiative to assist homeless or individuals at risk of homelessness apply for social security benefits.

∫ $2,500 from Chemical Bank to help NEMCSA’s Heat & Utility Program collaborate with the Weatherization and Financial Literacy programs to provide specific energy education and budgeting classes.

State to host forums on new work rules

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services will host several forums around the state to inform residents about the new work requirements tied to the Healthy Michigan Plan.

Beginning Jan. 1, Healthy Michigan beneficiaries must report 80 hours of work or other activities, such as job searches, to DHHS each month.

More than 640,000 Michiganders have coverage under the Healthy Michigan Plan, the state’s expanded Medicaid program that began in 2014.

Forums scheduled thus far include:

∫ 10 to 11:30 a.m. Oct. 21 at Lansing Community College-West Campus, 5708 Cornerstone Drive, Delta Township

∫ 10 to 11:30 a.m. Oct. 22 at Upper Peninsula Health Plan, 853 W. Washington St., Marquette

∫ 5 to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 22 at St. Ignace Public Library, 110 W. Spruce St., St. Ignace

∫ 10 to 11:30 a.m. Oct. 23 at the Ralph A. MacMullan Conference Center, 104 Conservation Drive, Roscommon

∫ 10 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 2:30 p.m. Oct. 30, 10-11:30 a.m. at Cadillac Place, Conference Room L-150, 3044 W. Grand Boulevard, Detroit

∫ 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Oct. 31 at the Genesee County Community Action Resource Department (GCCARD), 601 N. Saginaw St., Flint

∫ 1:30 to 3 p.m. Nov. 4 at the Oakland Schools Conference Center, 2111 Pontiac Lake Road, Waterford

∫ 10 to 11:30 a.m. Nov. 5 at the Center for Family Health, 505 N. Jackson St., Jackson
