Alpena council picks city manager
ALPENA — After a full day of interviews, the Alpena Municipal Council voted 5-0 today to hire a new city manager.
Rachael Smolinski, who is the director of the Harbor Springs Downtown Development Authority, was chosen to replace current city manager Greg Sundin, who is retiring in December.
Council narrowed a field of 39 applicants to six finalists who were interviewed today, and ultimately Smolinski won out.
City Attorney Bill. Pfeifer will now begin negotiating a contract with Smolinski who is expected to begin in early December.
