ALPENA — Airplane enthusiasts and their aircraft will head to Alpena for a meet-and-greet and pancake breakfast on Saturday at the Alpena County Regional Airport.

The public is invited to enjoy a hot meal and check out the many different types of airplanes.

The event is hosted by the Experimental Aircraft Association Alpena Chapter No. 1021. The Skipper Up Skydiving Club will be on-hand, providing people a chance to skydive for a fee.

According to spokesperson Jerry Broad, the local aircraft club has about 30 members and all of them have a passion for aviation, even though some don’t own their own plane.

“We have some people who build their own and others who have purchased them,” Broad said. “We have planes that hold one person and others that hold as many as a dozen passengers.”

“There will be many different sizes, shapes, colors and styles of planes people can go a check out and it should be a good time, because the weather is looking like it should be nice,” he said.

Those interested in skydiving can do so for $325, which includes brief class and a tandem-harness parachute jump. The jump will also be filmed.

Skipper Up Skydiving Club spokesman Corey Tillage said people who are interested should register soon, because time slots are filling up. He said people also need to prepay, to limit the number of cancellations.

The pancakes will be served from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and cost $6 per ticket. Tillage said skydiving will begin at 8 a.m. and end about 8 p.m.

All of the events are weather permitting.
