Tony Atkinson, veterans service officer for the Alcona County Veterans Affairs Office, settles in to his new office at the Alcona County Courthouse, 106 N 5th St., Harrisville. The Veterans Affairs Office relocated to the courthouse last month to take advantage of the county’s enhanced security.

Atkinson works to connect veterans with services such as claim processing for compensations or VA pensions. The county also has a Soldiers and Sailors Fund, which helps veterans with emergency expenses and burial costs. Office hours are from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.
