Bock gets up to 50 years in sex assault

ALPENA — A former Alpena resident was sentenced to 25 to 50 years in prison Monday for sexually abusing a minor and will serve that time alongside another sentence handed down in another county.

Chad Raymond Bock, 30, of Johannesburg, was sentenced in 26th Circuit Court on mulitple charges related to sexual abuse of a person younger than 13.

Bock was already incarcerated at the time of his August arrest by troopers from the Michigan State Police-Alpena Post, serving a sentence imposed in December by Otsego County’s 43rd District Court. There, he was sentenced to 35 to 60 years in prison after pleading guilty to first-degree criminal sexual conduct on a child less than 13 years old and possession of child sexually abusive material.

In Alpena courts, Bock pleaded guilty to abusing a boy who was younger than 13.

The assaults occurred between 2008 and 2012, according to court records. Bock lived in Alpena during that time.

According to his attorney, Bock was investigated in relation to the Alpena victim some years ago, but, at the time there was insufficient evidence to prosecute.

During questioning by Otsego County law enforcement, however, Bock admitted to assaulting the Alpena victim, as well, leading to his current conviction in the 26th Circuit Court, Bock’s attorney said.

The victim’s parents read victim-impact statements before the sentence was pronounced on Monday.

Bock’s sentences will be served concurrently. He is undergoing weekly counseling while in prison and is registered as a tier-3 sex offender.

The News does not identify victims of sexual assault.
