Harrisville Beautification Committee seeks volunteers

HARRISVILLE — The Harrisville Beautification Committee is looking for volunteers to help maintain the appearance of the downtown area.

Jackie Trimmer is on the committee as well as a member of the Garden Club and a volunteer for the Master Gardeners. She has worked hard to maintain the many plants and public areas in the community to keep it looking pristine. Trimmer said it is difficult to find people to help because they have a mostly older population in the area. There are only a few people currently on the committee.

In the summer, Trimmer said there is a lot to be done, and it can be overwhelming, especially since there are only two people that do regular maintenance.

“It takes a lot of time to maintain everything,” she said. “There is a lot more we could do, we just don’t have the manpower.”

There are about 10 planters the committee maintains, as well as the area at the end of Main Street and the harbor lookout. The committee also cleans some of the local sidewalks. She said they would like to start new projects such as staining benches, but they need more help.

“It is hard to maintain what we have,” Trimmer said.

She is hoping others might step up to volunteer and help keep the community looking beautiful and inviting. Trimmer also said they are welcome any input or suggestions for the committee.
