Employers can tap $27M in training funds

The state is offering employers a total of $27 million in grants to train employees in skilled trades, and area Michigan Works! agencies are offering information sessions for employers, the Michigan Works! Northeast Consortium said in a news release.

Several sessions are happening throughout northern Michigan, including sessions at 9 a.m. Aug. 29 and 1 p.m. Sept. 6 at the Alpena site, 315 W. Chisholm St., and at 1 p.m. Aug. 30 at the Onaway site, 20709 State St.

The money must be used for short-term training that fills a specific need for the employer. The training must also lead to a credential for the employee. The funds are available through the state’s Going PRO Talent Fund, previously known as the Skilled Trades Training Fund.

Employers can reserve a spot at an information session by contacting Collin Hoffmeyer at 989-733-8548, ext. 2324 or hoffmeyerc@nemcworks.org.
