Rogers City board holds public hearing for new sheriff’s vehicle

ROGERS CITY — The Presque Isle County Board of Commissioners had a public hearing for a grant application to buy a new car for the Sheriff’s Department.

“I think we requested $18,700 our portion would be $15,300,” said Clerk Anne Marie Main.

Sheriff Bob Paschke said the quote for the SUV was $34,000. It’s for a USDA Rural Development Grant.

The board approved a contract with 1010 Technology for IT service at $95 per hour and they bill on the quarter hour. They also approved the contract for backup service.

“They got a grant they’ve been working on awhile. It finally got through. In order to get our reimbursement we need to get them paid,” Main said.

It would cost $5,400 for 18 body cams, Paschke said 13 will be for the county and five would be for Rogers City Police.

“The money is in the Grant Fund so it’s part of the bank account and we’re not running it through and it zeroes itself out,” Main said.

The board also approved the purchase of two radios for the Sheriff’s Department. One would be paid for out of the Marine grant the other out of the snowmobile grant. They cost about $9,000.

“We’re getting about a $1,500 discount per radio, but then there’s accessories and a few other fees. Even if they get them now while there’s still money in their budget they won’t be programmed for some time because the state is so far behind,” Main said.

In other business, the board also approved the use of the courthouse lawn during the Nautical Festival.
